Scarlett Ingrid Johansson was born on November 22, 1984, in Manhattan, New York City. Her mother, Melanie Sloan, is from a Jewish family in the Bronx, and her father, Karsten Johansson, is a Danish-born architect from Copenhagen. Scarlett has a sister named Vanessa, who is also an actress, a brother named Adrian, a twin brother named Hunter, and a half-brother named Christian. Her grandfather, Ejner Johansson, was a writer.

Scarlett began acting as a child after her mother started taking her to auditions. She made her professional debut at eight in the off-Broadway play Sophistry with Ethan Hawke. At nine, she made her film debut in North (1994). After minor roles in Just Cause(1995) and If Lucy Fell (1996), she gained recognition for her role in Manny & Lo (1996). Her performance earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination and praise for her charm and calm presence.
In 1998, Scarlett received critical acclaim for her role in The Horse Whisperer. She continued to gain attention with roles in Ghost World (2001) and The Man Who Wasn't There (2001). She starred in Eight Legged Freaks (2002) and received two Golden Globe nominations in 2003 for Girl with a Pearl Earring and Lost in Translation.
Scarlett appeared in many films, including In Good Company (2004), A Love Song for Bobby Long (2004), Match Point (2005), and The Island (2005). She released an album in 2008 and starred in Vicky Cristina Barcelona and The Other Boleyn Girl.Her notable roles include Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lucy (2014)
Ghost in the Shell (2017), and Rough Night (2017). Scarlett has been married three times and has two children. She married Colin Jost in October 2020, and they have a son together.
