Steve Ballmer was born on March 24, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, to Frederic and Beatrice Ballmer. He was raised in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Ballmer attended Detroit Country Day Institution in Beverly Hills, Michigan, an elite college preparatory school.

Steve Ballmer started his career by completing his education while still a student. Ballmer's undergraduate classmate Bill Gates had left to start Microsoft with his friend Paul Allen. After finishing his first year of business school, he calls Steve Ballmer to inquire about a summer internship at his company. Bill Gates advised Steve Ballmer to pursue a full-time job rather than a summer internship. Steve left Stanford's MBA program in 1980 and began working for Microsoft as employee number 30.

He transformed the cooperation with Microsoft into a business structure. Later, Gates and Ballmer each held a 53% stake in the business. Ballmer took over control of the Operating System, the foundation of the business, in the year 1980. In 1986, Microsoft became a publicly listed firm, and Ballmer amassed a sizable fortune. Over the following few years, Ballmer held numerous important positions at Microsoft, and in 1992, he was promoted to Executive Vice President, Support and Sales.

In 1988, Ballmer was selected for the post of President of Microsoft, which he held until 2001. He was selected as Microsoft's CEO in the year 2000. He assumed control of the business's finances and daily operations. During Ballmer's term as CEO, Microsoft's revenues see a spectacular surge.
