 Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954, in Mississippi to a single adolescent mother. Orpah Gail Winfrey was her given name. Her father, Vernon Winfrey, abandoned her mother soon after she was born. Her mother was 18 years old and unemployed at the time. She realised she couldn't care for young Oprah if she didn't have a job. So she left Oprah to live with Oprah's maternal grandmother and relocated to Milwaukee to look for work. For the first six years of her childhood, Oprah lived with her maternal grandmother and witnessed terrible destitution. Oprah had to wear clothes fashioned from potato sacks because they were so destitute.


Despite coming from a low-income background, Oprah was a talented young person. She had a passion for speaking, a need for knowledge, and even a vision for the future as a young child. Oprah predicted that she would have a terrific personality when she was just four years old. She was a little child who had no idea what she wanted to do when she grew up, but she was certain of one thing: she wouldn't live in poverty forever.

Oprah had to have had a horrible upbringing, full of abuse and poverty. There was no one to help her when her grandma beat her. At the age of 13, after years of being abused, neglected, and molested, she fled her family. She gave birth to a preterm baby who died shortly after delivery when she was 14 years old.

The father of Oprah was an extremely strict man. But he assisted her in putting her son aside so she could concentrate on her education. He gave Oprah the direction, encouragement, guidelines, and books she needed to advance. Oprah developed her intellect as a result. She thus rose to the top of her class and earned a reputation for her outstanding oratory abilities.

Oprah entered a Nashville-area radio station-hosted beauty pageant when she was 16 years old. Oprah won the pageant and was named Miss Fire Prevention despite stiff competition. People working at the radio station asked her whether she wanted to hear her voice on the air when she went to pick up the prize at the local radio station. Oprah enthusiastically agreed and read the screenplay. Everyone at the radio station was thrilled after hearing her talk. They then gave her an opportunity to work as a news anchor.

Despite obstacles in her early career, she took various broadcasting tasks to establish herself and presented a morning show called "People Are Talking," which earned her a solid name. It was then that she was given the opportunity to host a show called A.M. Chicago, which soon became the most viewed talk show ever and was such a success that it was renamed the Oprah Winfrey Show.

She became known as the "Queen of all media" after excelling in her job and achieving international popularity. Oprah currently owns a cable network called OWN, which stands for Oprah Winfrey Network. She is the only black multi-billionaire and the biggest black philanthropist in American history, with a net worth of $2.9 billion. She is now the wealthiest African-American woman of the twentieth century. President Barack Obama gave Oprah the Presidential Medal of Freedom, as well as honorary doctorates from Duke and Harvard.
