Cristiano Ronaldo is without a doubt the world's most popular footballer. Despite overcoming several obstacles throughout his life, he rose to become one of the world's finest players. Poverty, bullying, a poor education, and a significant heart condition did not deter Cristiano Ronaldo from attaining greatness.
So keep reading to be inspired.
Cristiano Ronaldo was born into a poor household on
February 5, 1985, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. His life was made difficult by
his poverty. José's father used to work as a gardener and kit man at a football
club for very little compensation.
Ronaldo had been exercising since he was a toddler,
understanding that a footballer needed to be physically fit. After all, a
football match needs a player to run at least 10 kilometers. He used to
exercise himself continually from daylight to dusk at times. To develop his
game, he used to play with players of a higher age group.
Unfortunately, Ronaldo was diagnosed with tachycardia,
a dangerous cardiac ailment in which the heartbeat rapidly rises. And the
physicians advised him to stop playing football since it requires running,
which aggravates tachycardia. Doctors advised him that if he continued to play
football, he would die of heart failure.
Everyone assumed that Ronaldo's football career was
over. Doctors, fortunately, provided him with a second option: heart surgery.
The second choice, however, came with a major caveat: if the procedure failed,
he may have died; if the operation worked, he had a small chance of playing
football.
For Ronaldo's family, the first alternative appeared
to be the best option because it does not require surgery and allows him to
spend his life without playing football or engaging in heavy activities. His
family asked the physicians to explore the first choice. But tiny Ronaldo opted
to accept the biggest risk of his life, even if he did not fear death, and
undergo surgery to fulfill his ambition of playing football, even though there
was a slim possibility that he would be able to play football following
surgery. Ronaldo saw himself as one of the best football players of all time. He
discussed his option with his parents, and at the age of 15, he underwent
open-heart surgery. Fortunately, he survived the procedure and was slowly
healing. Ronaldo has restarted his football career.
At barely 17 years of age, he started playing for the
Portugal squad. His dedication eventually elevated him to the position of being
the greatest football player in the world. He achieved remarkable success
because he put his life in danger at an early age for his passion, football.
His total pay is currently about $108 million.
