Satya Narayan Nadella was born on 19 August 1967 in a Telugu family in Hyderabad. On 4 February 2014, he succeeded Steve Ballmer, the former CEO of Microsoft. Prior to becoming CEO, he was Executive Vice President of Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise Group. Born and brought up in India, Satya Nadella is currently a US citizen.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Satya Nadella was working at Sun Microsystems. He joined Microsoft in 1992 and served in almost every important division and position of the company.

His father Bukkapuram Nadella Yugandhar was an officer in the Indian Administrative Service. Satya Nadella studied at Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, Hyderabad. After completing school, he joined Manipal Institute of Technology (affiliated with Mangalore University) to study electrical engineering. He completed his engineering studies in the year 1988.

After completing his studies, Satya Nadella worked at Sun Microsystems on the company's technology team. After working for some time at Sun Microsystems, he joined Microsoft in 1992 and has been with it since then.
Career in Microsoft:
Satya Nadella joined Microsoft in 1992 and since then he has been associated with the company. During his long association with the company, he worked on many projects. He started with the Server Group at Microsoft. He then worked in the Software Division, Online Services, Research & Development, Advertising Platforms and then returned to the Server Division as the head.
He pioneered cloud computing at Microsoft and was instrumental in building the company into one of the world's largest cloud infrastructures.
He served as Senior Vice President in the Online Services Division and as Vice President in the Microsoft Business Division. He was later made the chairman of the company's US$19 billion 'Service and Tool' business. He changed the face of this division of the company.
He was instrumental in bringing Microsoft's database, Windows Server, and developer tools to the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. Under his leadership, the division's profits increased from US$16.6 billion in 2011 to approximately US$20.3 billion in 2013.
Personal Life:
Satya Nadella married Anupama in 1992. Anupama is the daughter of Satya's father's friend. The Nadella couple has three children – a beta and two daughters. Satya lives in Washington with his family.
