In the Early 20-century Bhagat Singh was a hero of Indian Independence movement. On September 27,1907, Bhagat Singh was born in Lyallpur, western Punjab, India now in Punjab. Bhagat Singh Studied in Dayanand Anglo Vedic High School, which was handled by Arya Samaj and then graduated from National College, both situated in Lahore.
Bhagat Singh came into contact with Sukhdev and Bhavati Charan when he was in National School in Lahore.
His family members took part in many political activities which had a great impact on him. His grandfather Arjun Singh followed the Hindu reformist movement of Swami Swami Dayanand Saraswati. His father and uncles were also members of the Ghadar Party, which were led by Kartar Singh Sarabha and Har Dayal.
Bhagat Singh, quite different from his age, refused to attend Khalsa school and got admission in the Dayanand Anglo Vedic School because his grandfather was against the Khalsa school authorities, who were loyal to the British government.
When Bhagat Singh was 12 years old,he visited Jallianwala Bagh Within a few hours, thousands of unarmed people were killed who were gathered at a public meeting.
On 20 February 1922, when he was only a 14 year old boy, he took part in his village who welcomed protesters towards the killing of a huge range of unarmed people at Gurudwara Nankana Sahib.
Bhagat Singh raised the slogan "Inquilab Zindabad".
Revolutionary Period:
In 1921, Gandhi called for non-cooperation movement Bhagat singh left his Dayanand Anglo Vedic School to join the National school which was the centre of revolutionary activities. There he became the member of the hindustan Republic Association and actively participated in the activities.
Followers of Gandhi, were soundly condemned of the actions of the young revolutionaries. but Bhagat Singh was happy to have a stage on which to promote his cause.
During a silent march against the Simon Commission Bhagat Singh plotted with others to kill the police chief responsible for the death of Indian writer and politician Lala Lajpat Rai, one of the founders of National College in 1928. But JP Saunders, a junior officer, was killed by mistake.
Bhagat singh had to go from Lahore to escape the penalty of death. In 1929, to protest the implementation of the Defence of India Act, Bhagat singh and his associate lobbed a bomb at the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi and after sometime they surrendered.
At the age of 23,1931 Bhagat Singh was Hanged for the murder of Saunders.
Even today, Bhagat Singh is known for his bravery.14 February is considered the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh.
