Abraham Lincoln was born on  February 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky was an American statesman and lawyer who served as the 16th president of the United States of America from March 1861 to April 1865 until his assassination.

Lincoln led the nation during the American Civil War, its bloodiest war and its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis. He preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the U.S. economy.

Lincoln's parents were both born in Virginia, When young Lincoln was nine years old, his mother died of tremetol (milk sickness) at age 34, on October 5, 1818. In 1819, just a year after his mother’s death, Lincoln’s father Thomas married Sarah Bush Johnston, a Kentucky widow with three children of her own.
